RE: IMPORTANT OPORTUNITY RE BOOK ARTS IN THE USA CATALOG

YOU MAY BE ABLE TO GET
A BOOK ARTS IN THE USA CATALOG

A new development in this: I just got a call from USIA that
they have found some copies of this catalog. They will not
guarantee that they will be able to make them available, but
have asked me to initiate the process by compiling a list of
those who would like to receive a copy. They would be
willing to make this a test case and go through channels to try
and set a precedent allowing them to distribute the remaining
copies domestically. They make no guarantees that they will be
successful in this attempt, and so there is a chance this will
not work.
I have volunteered to coordinate the list of recipients. It
is uncertain whether they will be able to mail out the copies
to each recipient, or if they will send them to me and I'll
forward them. That will be determined in this process. If it
turns out that I have to send them out, I'll have to ask the
recipients to pay the postage. With a jiffy bag and priority
mail, it should be under $5. That will all be determined later.
As it stands now, the catalogs have no price, and unless a
determination is made to the contrary they would be donated to
the institution requesting it.
They do not want individual institutions to contact them
directly. They do not have anyone there with the time to
coordinate that part of it.
If you would like your archive, library, not-for-profit
educational organization, college, or university, whether
governmental or private sector, to be a recipient, please
e-mail me at the address:

    minsky@xxxxxxxxxxxx

please include the form a mailing label should be addressed
in, flush left, as follows:

Your Name, Title
Library, archive or department title
Institution or organization name
Address line 1
Address line 2 with zip code
Country if not USA

I will copy the address line directly from the e-mail to a
list in the order received. In 30 days I will send this list to
the USIA with a request for them to distribute copies to the
list. I don't know exactly how many copies they have, but I
will state in the request that the list is in the order
requests were received. Postal mail requests will be added the
day they are received. Phone requests should be made to the
Center for Book Arts at (212) 460-9768. I prefer e-mail because
I don't have to retype entries and it minimizes typo errors.

You may circulate this memo to any interested party, but I
want to be invited to the party. :-)

                  Richard
