and has since beocme a model for others around the world. The
Center has organized over 130 exhibitions related to the art of
the book, involving over 2600 artists, and more than 200
artists
a year use our fully-equipped printshop and bindery to create
new
works which reflect centuries of craft tradition. Each year the
Center offers over 120 courses, workshops, and seminars, as
well
as services to artists, including an intern and apprenticeship
program, special publications, workspace rentals, an artist
slide

CENTER FOR BOOK ARTS PROGRAMS
EXHIBITION PROGRAM
The Book Arts Gallery, a 900 square foot exhibition space at
the
Center for Book Arts, provides a venue specifically for the
work
of book artists, and affords the public exposure to the art of
the book. Each year the Exhibition Program provides space,
publicity and catalogs for up to 6 shows of work by book
artists,
both established and emerging, as well as students from the
Center's Outreach Project. The Center's Exhibition Program has

Willem Sandberg, the former director of the Stedelijk Museum in
Amsterdam who is considered by some to be the father of modern
typography; and Jean de Gonet, one of the foremost
contemporary bookbinders whose work is included in many major
public and private collections.
In 1993 the Center's Book Arts Gallery exhibited "Agrippa: (a
book of the dead)," a collaborative work by the award-winning
science fiction author William Gibson and artist Dennis
Ashbaugh,
which combined computer technology and the traditional book
format. Last year also included the bookworks of Hedi Kyle, a
book artist whose innovative book structures have greatly

Book Arts Gallery include:
"The Works of edition balance: Contemporary Book Arts from the
