Compsition costs, even for computer generated type via Linotron, is still
about $10-$15/page. Of course this cost is spread out over the edition (the
larger the print run, the cheaper the average page cost). As late as the
mid-60s many books were still set in hot metal which was then photographed
and printed by offset. I really haven't noticed a dramatic drop in book
prices because of the new technology since composition is but one of the
manufacturing costs. Paper, for instance, has become outrageously expensive
and contributes a significant amount to the price of a commercial book.
