classes at CBA

New Classes Added to Spring 1996 Semester!

Due to a overwhelming interest in
Coptic Binding,
the Center is now offering
two new weekend workshops.
Take your choice from these weekends:

                                May 18 & 19
                        Saturday and Sunday 10 - 4
                                        or
                                June 1 & 2
                        Saturday and Sunday, 10 - 4

Coptic Binding is an early binding style having an exposed spine and rigid
separate covers. Its versatility makes this technique a perfect option when
using wood, metal, plexi or any other rigid material for covers. The
beautiful exposed threads on the spine are both ornamental and functional.
If covered boards are not used, Coptic binding is completely non-adhesive
and it opens 360 degrees. Students will have the opportunity to bind two
books -- one with paper covered boards and another with wood and/or
plexiglass covers.

If you would like to see a sample of Coptic binding ask to see the model at
the front desk.

The instructor is Zahra Partovi, a translator and the Resident Bookbinder
and Production Associate for Vincent FitzGerald & Co., a small, fine press.
Ms. Partovi's works for the company are in the collections of major
institutions in the United States and Europe.

Each workshop costs only $185 for CBA members,
or $215 for non-members.

These originally scheduled classes still have a few spaces available, but
you'll have to act quickly to insure your place in them! See the CBA
Schedule of Programs for a full description of each class.
