Your problem sounds like "zoning".  You are pushing left-over alum and oxgall
to one end of the tank with your comb.  When you clean off the surface of the
tank before your next marble do it in this fashion:  1) Skim the surface with
a wooden board that exactly fits the width of the tank.  2) Lay a 3-4 inch
wide strip of newspaper on the end of the tank where you just completed your
skimming operation.  Let it soak up the excess alum, ox gall and junk that
has been pushed there.  If this doesn't stop  the problem try cleaning the
whole surface by laying sheets of newspaper across the whole tank and then
stirring the size.  Clean off that comb, too.
