Upcoming Book Arts Exhibits in NYC

For those who will be in New York City this fall:

Dieu Donne Papermill is pleased to announce two book arts related exhibits
that have been arranged as part of its 20th anniversary events in October 1996.

"Dard Hunter and the Art of the Handmade Book"
at HarperCollins, 10 East 53rd Street, NYC
October 23 - November 22, 1996
This exhibit showcases Hunter's private press books on the history and
technique of hand papermaking.  Co-curated by Cathleen Baker, his
biographer, and his grandson Dard Hunter III.  A press release with more

"Green Box II: A Travelling Exhibit of Handmade Papers, Books and Artworks
by Douglass Morse Howell (1906-1994)"
at Brooklyn Public Library, Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, NY
September 19 - November 15, 1996
This exhibit features the accomplishments of Howell who is credited with the
revival of American hand papermaking and the first application of handmade
paper as an art medium.  Curated by Eugenie Barron.  A press release with

Also on view in October 1996 is "Paper Art and the Book", an exhibit at the
Center for Books Arts, 626 Broadway, NYC, Sept 27 - Dec 7, 1996.  This
exhibit contains books and broadsides which utilize unusual papers or
involves paper in innovative ways.  For more information, contact the Center
