Program of the Fifth International Forum of Artistic Binding

Here is a summary of the program published yesterday (21 September) in Le
Devoir newspaper (translation by myself) :

Friday 27 September : 15h00 : General Assembly of ARA-International (Amis de
la Reliure d'art).

Saturday 28 September 10h00 : round table "Vision sur l'an 2000", with :

-       Philippe Sauvageau, general director of the Bibliotheque Nationale du
Quebec;

-       Ellen Desmarais, National Archives of Canada;

-       Robert Rainwater, The New York Public Library;

-       John Franklin Mowery, The Folger Shakespeare Library of Washington;

-       Emile van der Vekene, Bibliotheque Nationale de Luxembourg.

Saturday 28 September 14h00 : Points de vue :

-       Sabine Coron, Conservatrice de reliures anciennes brodees a la
Bibliotheque historique de la Ville de Paris;

-       Mindell Dubansky, Director, Conservation Department, Thomas Watson
Library, The Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York;

-       Claudette Hould, Specialiste du livre d'artiste a la Bibliotheque
Nationale du Quebec.

Saturday 28 September 15h30 : Conferences :

-       Donald G. Etherington, President of the Conservation division,
Information Conservation Inc, North Carolina;

-       Monique Lallier, Director of an artistic binding workshop in North
Carolina.

Sunday, September 29 :

. 9h30 : Conference by Florent Rousseau, a French artistic binder

. 10h30 : Conference by Guy de Grosbois, historian, director of Reliures et
Papiers

. 11h30 : Conference by Antoine Coron, Director of the Rare books Department
at the Bibliotheque Nationale de France.

In Montreal, at this occasion, will be held 3 expositions devoted to artistic
binding:

- Professional binders : 24 September - 26 October, Bibliotheque Nationale du
Quebec, 1700 Saint-Denis Street;

- Artists "libres" : 10 September - 13 October, Maison de la Culture
Frontenac 2550 east, Ontario street;

- Students : 5 - 29 September, Maison de la Culture Mont-Royal, 465 east,
Mont-Royal avenue.

In all, 217 binders, from 17 countries.

By the way, the same weekend, September 28 and 29 will be held the Montreal
Antiquarian Book Fair, at Concordia University.
