Re: Degreasing

Dear Robin: If you are cleaning metal other than aluminum you can use
Ajax or Comet or Bon Amie etc.( very finely ground calcium carbonate in
them so they do not scratch sinks ) or whiting and ammonia. If cleaning
linoleum ( old fashioned type) you can use kerosene, according to some
printmakers, when followed by inking with oil base ink. If using solvents -
please do it outdoors - if you do not have a sophisticated hood (exhaust
fan) set up.

Aluminum is a vry reactive metal compared to zinc, for instance,- so I'd ask a
metalworker about that one.

French chaulk is about the same thing as the scouring agent in sink
cleaners ( calcium carbonate ground fine ) and whiting is the same thing -
hardware stores usually carry it.
