MARC for artists' books

Hi. Here's an example of an OCLC record (although this one is from the
more user-friendly FirstSearch World Cat database--it's the same
database, but it has words rather than MARC tags; e.g. TITLE would be the 245
field in a straight MARC record). If you search the database using the
subject heading "Artists books" you get over 6,000 hits, but many of them
are *about* artists books or are catalogs of exhibitions (which wouldn't
necessarily be bad things to turn up). This one has notes taken from the
colophon, but there was another one which had notes provided by the
artist. There are a few strings attached about what kind of information
can go into the different notes fields, and there are some standards as
to what can be included as an added entry (might be collaborators, for

Anyhow, I think this is a very useful discussion. People who catalog rare
books are probably the best people to talk about this area, since they
customarily include collation descriptions, provenance, and other such
issues in catalog records.
