Frederic W. Goudy Workshop -- Part Two

SCRIPPS PRESS CAMP TWO: Finer Points in Letterpress Typography

May 17-18, 1997 9:30 am - 4:30 pm Daily

Cost: $150.00

Based on the success of our recent Frederic Goudy Workshop on the
Care and Feeding of the Vandercook, we invite you to again join
master printer Gerald Lange as he leads a workshop exploring the
finer points of composition, typographic design, and presswork on
the hand-operated cylinder flatbed printing press. Handset metal
type composition techniques and standards (and their relation to
computer-set digital type) will be examined as will the integration
of text and image from a production standpoint. Printing from metal
type and photopolymer plates will be demonstrated with special
attention to proper makeready, press adjustments, inks and inking,
preparation of printing surfaces, and press editioning. DON'T MISS

Gerry Lange is the founder (1975) and proprietor of the Bieler Press,
which is located in Marina del Rey, California. Current activities

for letterpress operations. Lange has also printed and published
over fifty titles under The Bieler Press imprint. His most recent
book title is "The Neolithic Adventures of Taffi-mai Metallu-mai:
How the First Letter Was Written & How the Alphabet Was Made, Just So
Stories" by Rudyard Kipling.
