Case Western Reserve University is seeking a full-time Preservation
Technician II for their University Library.
Duties: Repair, rebind, and restore select items from the general and
Special Collections following current conservation quality standards and
employing a high degree of craftsmanship; inspect damaged library materials
and make decisions concerning appropriate in-house treatment or other
preservation options; assist in condition surveys, environmental
monitoring, reformatting, mass-deacidification, and other projects; assist
with training and supervision of student help; enter data into computer;
other related duties.
Requirements: High school diploma, at least 1 year formal
training/apprenticeship in bookbinding and book repair or the conservation
of library materials OR a minimum of 1 year experience with hands-on
benchwork under the supervision of a trained conservator. Prefer some
educational experience at the college level, certification of successful
completion of advanced training in book and paper conservation from a
recognized center, school or institute for Conservation Studies; one or
more years of practical experience in book and paper conservation MAY BE
SUBSTITUTED for certification.
Must be able to present a portfolio of examples of past work in hand
binding. Prefer basic computer skills (Macintosh or Windows) using word
processing, spreadsheet; familiarity with digital imaging technology and
its application in library book preservation.
Salary Grade: SG/6, $17, 535 - $19,268 for 37.5 hour week, benefits.
