Tacketting has two principal definitions that I am aware of, Phil.
One is a traditional method of cover attachment to a sewn text block by
a second sewing through the cover material and around (or through) the
primary sewing stations (done in many ways). There is also the quire
tacket which is sort of the medieval version of a staple, usually a
piece of alum taw laced through holes in the quire and then dampened and
twisted to close.
The more recent use of the term is as a repair technique for
reattaching detached bookboards.
