Re: Southern California events

The Artist Book Circle is sponsoring a lecture for Los Angeles-based book
artists, collectors, librarians, and curators, as well as book lovers at the
Beverly Hills Public Library on Thursday 7 August at 7:30 p.m. Two members
of the German women's collaborative Unica T will be presenting the work of
the collaborative, which just celebrated its 10th anniversary by holding a
retrospective exhibition at the Museum fur Kunsthandwerk in Frankfurt last
fall. Ulrike Stoltz and Uta Schneider will not only present a slide
leclture, but will also show actual copies of some of their books as well as
having the hard-cover catalog for sale from the Frankfurt show.

On 6 August in La Jolla at the Athenaeum, they will presenting a similar
lecture to the San Diego-based Book Arts group. The lecture will be held at
7:30 p.m. as well.

On Sunday 10 August the two women will hold a workshop at the 18th STreet
Arts Complex, 1629 18th St., where a book will be produced by the group in
an edition as large as the group. $25.00 will hold a reservation for the
workshop. The money should be sent to Judith A. Hoffberg, P.O. Box 3640,
Santa Monica, CA 90408. If you could provide an e-mail address or fax
number, I can send you instructions for the workshop. There are only a few
more places left for the workshop, so hurry please.

This is a golden opportunity to explore the energy and creativity of a group
of women in Offenbach, Germany (just outside of Frankfurt) who have made the
book their mode of expression on every level: printmaking, photography,
collage, etc. Come and join us either on 6 August in the San Diego area, 7
August in the Los Angeles area, and see if you can find time for the
workshop on Sunday 10 August.
