Re: coloring linen thread



Linen thread can be permanently dyed with fiber reactive dyes such as
Procion-MX dyes which can be found in art supply stores. It is a
cold-water dyeing process which involves the dyes actually bonding to the
cellulose fibers in linen. These are the same dyes used in Tie-Dyeing
so the color selection is vast.

Rit dyes basically just "coat" the fibers (not permanent), whereas the Procion dyes
react with the fibers to form a permanent bond which cannot be washed
out once dyed.
