Hi all:
        A note from a lurker.Japanese books (ehon) published in the 18th
and 19th C were usually bound in sets of volumes (rarely more than 3 vol.)
of 24-36 folded,thin paper sheets (about 1/4-1/2 inches-I suppose to avoid
the problems described in this thread.Occasional mon books (crests) were
thicker-say 1" or so in the late 19th C.Covers are paper with title slips
