                             DUANE HANSON:
AN EXHIBITION OF SCULPTURE, TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES,
               PRINTED MATERIALS, MODELS, AND MEMORABILIA
                        FROM THE COLLECTION OF
                      MRS. DUANE (WESLA) HANSON

                  December 11, 1997-January 11, 1998

In addition to books and other printed materials, the exhibition
showcases various items Hanson actually used in the creation of his
sculptural pieces: paint brushes and paints, eye glasses and watches,
mannequin eyeballs, false teeth, wigs and hairpieces, sculpture
tools, molds, and body parts. Other objects in the exhibition
include: maquettes and models, t-shirts, photographs, sketchbooks,
scrapbooks, awards, magazines, and one life-size sculpture, THE
CHEERLEADER, 1981.

The exhibit is a collaborative effort of the Bienes Center and the
Museum of Art, Ft. Lauderdale, and is a companion to the major
retrospective entitled: DUANE HANSON: A SURVEY OF HIS WORK FROM THE
'30s TO THE '90s, that will be on view from January 16-August 2, 1998,
at the Museum of Art, 1 E. Las Olas Blvd., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33301

Duane Hanson (Jan. 17, 1925-Jan. 6, 1996) moved to Florida in 1965
and became a permanent resident of Broward County and the City of
Davie in 1973 where he lived until his death in 1996. He took great
pride in his long association with South Florida and flourished in
his semi-rural retreat in Davie where he maintained his home and
studio. In 1992, equally honored by the fact that he chose to reside
in Florida, the State inducted him into the Florida Artists Hall of
Fame, and in 1995, Broward Cultural Affairs presented him with its
Artistic Achievement Award.

An opening reception and program will be held Dec. 11, 1997,
6-7:30 pm in the Bienes Center. Mrs. Duane (Wesla) Hanson will be in
attendance, and Laurence Pamer, Curator of Exhibitions, Museum of
Art, Ft. Lauderdale, will give a brief talk on Hanson's life and works
at 6:45 pm.

A complimentary 14 page exhibition catalog is available upon request.
The exhibit may also be viewed (as of December 20, 1997) on the Bienes
Center's website at: www.co.broward.fl.us/bienes.
