Re: ISBN numbers

Jane wrote, in response to Ed's query about International Standard Book
Numbers, that the number he quoted might be too/two short. It's my
understanding that publishers are assigned ISBNs according to how many
books they anticipate publishing in a given (10 year?) period. Since the
ISBNs are all the same number of digits, a publisher with an anticipated
lengthy list will have a shorter publisher identifier.
