San Francisco Center Lecture and Workshop

San Francisco Center for the Book
Free Lecture by Kitty Maryatt
Friday, May 29, 1998
7:00 p.m.

Kitty Maryatt, Director of the Scripps College Press and
proprietor of Two Hands Press, will give a talk about making
collaborative letterpress books with students at Scripps College
and about her own one-of-a-kind books. She will take you
on a journey through at least one book to show how the
process of bookmaking takes its twists and turns as complex
decisions are made. The lecture is free and no reservations are needed.

And a workshop by Kitty Maryatt:
Put Your Best Portfolio Forward

May 30-31, 1998
10:00-5:00
$140 with $20 materials fee

Learn to make a fabulous custom 11=94 x 14=94 portfolio to hold
your work. You will take some striking cloth and mount it
to paper to make your own bookcloth, prepare another cloth
or decorated papers or colored Tyvek as an accent, choose an
interesting closure for the portfolio and voila! It=92s you!
Additional methods to hold the materials in a tray or
perhaps to sew directly into the spine will be shown.
The idea is that you will be customizing a portfolio to reflect
your aesthetics as a preview to the contents.
