Weekend Reading: Genie Shenk, Kathleen Amt and more

There's a wonderful article in the summer issue of Fiber Arts
magazine on Genie Shenk's collaborative book project which
was part of the inSite97 project.

The same magazine also shows pictures of an installation
by Hiltrud Schafer with a distinctive "book arts" feel - it is called
dialogue and includes hand made paper, bits of ancient Japanese
calligraphy and pages from a 100-year old German book.

There is also a preview of an exhibit that will start on August 30
in Santa Fe at the Museum of International Folk Art (the new
Neutrogena Collection Wing) - textiles include a voodoo flag and
a fantastic beaded book cover.

The June issue of Bead & Button magazine has instructions from
Kathleen Amt on creating a fan book pendant which is described as
an "unusual pendant with flexible pages like a book, covers, and a
fan-type hinge". The article includes step by step instructions
(including a technique for transferring color copies to polymer clay)
and several examples of the finished pendants.

Both of the mags are worth a look.

Happy reading,
