On June 24 in New York City and June 28 in Washington, DC, researcher and paper artist Dorothy Field will present a slide talk on an ancient papermaking tradition in transition.
Handmade Paper in Nepal: Tradition and Change
Between 1984 and 1996, Dorothy Field traveled to Nepal four times, visiting traditional Nepalese papermakers as well as faciliites experimenting with innovations to the tradition. Through her view of papermaking, Ms. Field reveals how much has changed for the country and its people in just a few years. In doing so, she contemplates the future of the craft and the larger culture it is a part of.
Michael Durgin, editor of Hand Papermaking magazine, will be on hand to introduce Ms. Field and show Hand Papermaking?s recently published, limited edition portfolio of Nepalese papers. Portfolios will be offered for sale at both locations.
