August Artist Books Workshop in CT

Dear book arts friends,

Are you interested in a week-long artist books workshop with Robbin
Silverberg to be held in Norwalk, CT from August 3 -7? There are two of us
here in Michigan who would like to attend the workshop, but we need at
least two more people in order for the class to run. Time is going to run
out on us around July 10 - when the cost of the flight to CT and back will
likely jump high enough to prohibit the trip. If you would like to find
out more, please read the information below which I am posting with the
permission of the Connecticut GraphicArts Center.

Hope to meet some of you in Connecticut in August!
Thank you.
Sandra Matsco

P.S. Michael Costello from the center is very helpful. He'll mail or fax a
list of area hotels if you ask.

Artist Books: Image, Text and Material

Monday-Friday, August 3-7, 10 AM - 4 PM
$350 plus $25 lab fee

Robbin Silverberg, Director of Dobbin Mill/Dobbin Books, NYC, is both a
book artist and a papermaker. She works on solo bookworks, large paper
installations and artist book collaborations. She exhibits and teaches in
the US and Europe.

The book offers possibilities of sequence, rhythm and timing in an intimate
and engaging format and is an effective structure for presenting creative
ideas. An artist book will be designed and developed, then produced.
Papermaking and its role in the book artist's visual language will be
explored, with each participant producing the paper needed while
experimenting with basic techniques. Next, using the Vandercook press,
letter press witll be covered and a simple text printed. Finally,
participants will bind and collate their books. By examing a variety of
books and experimenting with various bindings, this workshop will expand
the vocabulary of the artist book.
