Scripps College 1998 Art Faculty Exhbition
Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery
Corner Columbia and 11th Street
Claremont, California

Monday, October 5, 1998
12:00 noon

Kitty Maryatt, Assistant Professor of Art and Director of the
Scripps College Press, will give a gallery talk about her six new
one-of-a-kind books at the 1998 Scripps art faculty show.
These books you can wear or carry, as in necklace, purse or
portfolio. In the necklace is a poem about marriage. One book
you carry on your belt as a copy of a medieval girdle book,
complete with brass clasp. She received a grant from Scripps
to travel to Ascona, Switzerland to study girdle books with
Dag Petersen, and then she watched more girdle book-making
at the wonderful PBI conclave last summer. Another piece is
a human-sized photo album shown as a standing triptych
with a story written by her son Jason about a character named
Calvin. The talk will be given right in the gallery.

The exhibition is open until October 11, 1998. Hours are
Wednesday through Sunday, 1:00-5:00 p.m. For more
information, send e-mail to Kitty Maryatt at TwoHandsPr@xxxxxxx
or call the gallery at 909 607-3397 or send e-mail to
