My photos are either prints which were scanned or slides put on Photo-CD. One
of the things you'll want to experiment with is the resolution on the camera.
Many are still set for 640 x 480 which isn't much and will result in grainy
pictures. Try going to a higher resolution. Just don't ask me what. Lighting is
another. A flash simply won't work in many cases, which is why I got myself
some photo-floods.
