1) LAURA WAIT - ARTIST'S BOOKS, PAINTINGS & PRINTS

Open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 am to noon and 2 to 5 pm.

2) Guild of Bookworkers - Rocky Mountain Chapter
Pochoir and an Accordion Book with Pop Backs =20
A two-day WORKSHOP taught by Jean Buesher
Dates: April 15, 16, 2000. 9:30-4.
Location: Bookworks, 3358 Pecos St. Denver, CO 80211
Class Size: 8-10. Cost: $145 (GBW members), inc. materials. ($160 for
LEARN THE ART OF POCHOIR WHILE MAKING AND EMBELLISHING AN ACCORDION BOOK
WITH POP-BACK PAGES.
Pochoir,A French Stenciling technique, is a sublime and relatively simple
way to embellish and illustrate book [ages. Very dry pigments are applied
through cut Mylar stencils. The technique is applicable for both
one-of-a=ADkind and limited edition book making. During this two-day worksho=
you will make a fun and functional accordion book with pop-back pages to
use as a surface for your Pochoir experimenting.=20
Something about Jean
Jean Buesher has taught the art of bookmaking since 1988, at a diverse
array of venues across the country. She has taught workshops at the Women=B9=
Studio Workshop form 1992-1999. She holds an MFA in Book Arts from the
University of Alabama, and her work is in permanent collections throughout
Her teaching approach is to awaken and sharpen dormant creativity through
problem solving free association, visual acuity, manual dexterity, formal
design, geometry, color theory, critical thinking, analogy, metaphor,
sketching, calligraphy, working slowly, and thinking clearly.
Jean lives in Ann Arbor Michigan, where she currently operates her own
Bloodroot Press, and produces limited fine press editions.
Tools and supply list:=20
Glue brush exacto knife, small triangle, water bowl, bone folder, scissors,
seal-healing mat (if available), metal ruler, small stencil brushes, water
colors or gouache, drafting tape, Apron, Varied selection of paper.=20
Plain paper and board will be supplied. Jean will have a small supply of
her favorite bamboo stencil brushes for sale for those who are interested
after the workshop.
Bring a sack lunch if possible. Pizza can be ordered.
Registration: This class is small, so it may fill up quickly. Please send a
check for $145 (or $160 if you are not a member), payable to The Guild of
Bookworkers to Laura Wait at Bookworks. Enrollment is first come- first
serve. Membership materials for the GBW are available from Laura. Annual

4) Tentative: Jean Buesher will present a slide lecture on Thursday. April
"Contemporary Women Letterpress Printers and the Private Press" Location to
5) In the planning stages: Priscilla Spitler will teach a workshop called,
"The Case Binding Refined". This will be a two or three day workshop in
leather case binding. This will be followed by "Leather decoration" taught
jointly by Pricilla and Laura Wait. Workshops will be in August at Laura's
studio. They are intended for students with some experience of bookbinding.
The finesse of leather work will be explored. Students can take one or both
workshops. There will a break day in between for a breath of air. If you are
