Fritz Kredel Exhibition


JANUARY 26  MARCH 16,  2000

The Arts of the Book Collection of Yale University Library will honor
illustrator Fritz Kredel (1900-1973) on the centennial of his birth with an
exhibition from the Fritz Kredel archives at Yale. The exhibit will include
wood blocks, original drawings, proofs, published work, correspondence, and
realia donated by the Kredel family. Examples of Kredel’s work in
association with fine presses in Germany and the United States, along with
his illustrations for children’s books and items documenting his passion
for military costume and regalia, will be on display in the nave of
Sterling Memorial Library and the Arts of the Book Collection (room 177
Sterling Memorial Library).

An opening program and reception will take place on January 26th. Greer
Allen, designer, critic in the Graphic Design program at Yale, and former
Yale University Printer, will give a slide presentation titled “The
Vitality of Fritz Kredel’s Book Illustrations” celebrating Kredel’s legacy
as a wood cut artist and illustrator.  The presentation will take place at
4 p.m. in the Sterling Memorial Library Lecture Hall, 120 High Street, New
Haven, CT, followed by a reception in the Arts of the Book Collection. The
