More avaialable and in some ways superior are the lab heaters/stirrers that
Peter mentioned.

In essence they are an electric "hot plate" with a smooth top. They have a
magnet gizmo that rotates beneather the plate. A plastic covered bar magnet
is placed in the solution to be stirred. This in turn rotates and stirs the
medium. The heat and speed of stirring are both variable via reostats. They
also come in various sizes. You can use just about any container as long as
it will take the heat and is not to thick. Even metal pots.

How expensive? Not sure. But a call to a local lab here revealed they are
readily available via lab supply companies.
