Good weights:

Bricks or concrete blocks/paving stones placed on top of a thick board
(e.g., 1" plywood) to distribute the weight.  It is good to wrap them in
something such as newspaper (light use) or either thick plastic film or
"oil cloth" (heaview, longer-term use).
