Just in case anyone starts feeling too smug about all of this here's an
anecdote:

I'm an editor in my day job (pays for book materials) and I just had a hell
of a time explaining to the British publisher that the book I just finished
for them was written in Canadian English (briefly, American punctuation and
British spelling). They are not convinced there is such a thing, or that
they want to leave it that way for their British and American markets . . .

Canadian English gets a rough ride on both sides of the Atlantic.
