Re: David Esslemont Lecture at MCBA Nov. 10

David Esslemont: artist, designer, printer, bookbinder and publisher will
present an illustrated lecture surveying his work in fine press printing on
Friday, November 10, 7:00-8:00 pm. The lecture, co-sponsored by the
Minnesota Center for Book Arts and The Ampersand Club, will be held in the
Dayton's Performance Hall at Open Book, 1011 Washington Ave. S.,
Minneapolis. The lecture is free.
In 1978 while working as an artist and printmaker, Esslemont established his
own private press in his home town of Newcastle upon Tyne in the north of
England. From 1985 to 1997 Esslemont was Director of the Gregynog Press in
Wales. He commissioned artists to illustrate books, and many, such as
Wrenching Times, included color wood engravings by Gaylord Schanilec. In
1997 Esslemont returned to working on a freelance basis from his home in
rural mid-Wales continuing his work as a designer, printer, publisher and
paste paper artist.
