One other thought:  In Siena there is a City or Provincial Archive just
off the main piazza. They have a wonderful collection of painted wood
covers for account books (medieval). You have to go at certain times and
ask to see them but it is well worth it. There are also other items on
display such as Boccaccio's final will. Look it up in the guide books or
ask where it is.
