Bookbindings by James Reid-Cunningham and Irina Gorstein

An exhibition of design bindings, historical models and pastiches, fine
bindings and book objects created by conservation staff at the Harvard
Design School.

Artist biographies

James Reid-Cunningham studied history and art history at Tufts
University and Johns Hopkins University. He is a graduate of the
Bookbinding program of the North Bennet Street School in Boston, where
he studied under Mark Esser. He is the Conservator of the Graduate
School of Design, Harvard University, and is the President of the New
England Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers. He has exhibited design
bindings internationally.

Irina Gorstein was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, where she graduated
from State Institute of Culture with BA in Bibliography and Information
Science in 1986. While in high school and college she attended art
studio and received training in painting, drawing, sculpture and art
history. In 1990 she moved to the USA, then to Boston in 1991. While
working at the Harvard Law School Library she became interested in
bookbinding and book conservation; this interest lead her to the North
Bennet Street School, where she studied bookbinding with Sally Key.
After graduation in 1998 she began work as Conservation Assistant at the
Frances Loeb Library.
