Canadian Bookbinders & Book Artists Guild - Book Arts Fair (long)

The Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild (CBBAG) would like to
invite you to this year's Book Arts Fair on Sat. June 9, 2001.  It is
open to the public and will take place at:

Bellefair United Church
2 Bellefair Ave., (at Queen St. E. in the Beaches)
Toronto, ON   Canada

Time:       11am -4pm
Admission:  FREE

We will have workshops and demonstrations to accompany the Fair.

Friday, June 8 - 10am-12:30pm
Demonstration with Alan Stein
"A Personal Approach to Book Illustration"
Alan Stein will demonstrate wood engraving and will discuss how he goes
about designing a book, choosing what to illustrate, the process of
developing the illustrations, and the collaboration with the author.

Friday, June 8 2pm-4:30pm
Demonstration with Amanda Lewis
"Paste Paper: A Springboard into the Creative Process"
The physical process of making paste paper engenders a visceral response
that can itself be a springboard for encouraging creative leaps.  Amanda
Lewis will explore her personal approach to paste paper and use a
variety of techniques & materials to suggest how media can impact the
creative process and direct the intuitive mind along with ways of moving
from exploration and conceptualization to finsihed piece.  A brief
period of play will follow the demonstration, time allowing.

Both demonstrations will be at our Guild at:

Demo Fees: $20 ea. or $35 for both  (all fees in Canadian funds).


Sunday, June 10  - "Coptic Binding" with Reg Beatty
Time: 10am-5pm
Fee $65. CBBAG members ($100 non-members)
Materials Fee: $10 (payable to instructor)

Monday-Saturday, June 11-16 - "Basic Paper Treament for Binders" with
Betsy Palmer Eldridge
Place:  24 Castle Frank Cres., Toronto
Pre-requisite: Bookbinding III or permission of instructor.
Fee: $390 CBBAG members ($425 non-members)
Materials Fee: $25 (payable to instructor)

Monday, June 11 - 6:30pm-9:30pm  - CBBAG Annual General Meeting
Meeting at 6:30pm
Program meeting at 7:30pm with Amanda Lewis
