The Book Arts and Special Collections Center of the San Francisco Public
Library Presents

BookWorks 2001: The 10th Biennial PCBA Members' Exhibition

SAN FRANCISCO--Have you ever seen a book made entirely out of metal? Or
worn a letterpress printed book shaped like a wig? In celebration of the
extraordinary books designed, printed, and assembled recently by
professional book artists and educators in the San Francisco Bay Area, the
Pacific Center for the Book Arts (PCBA) and the San Francisco Public
Library announce BookWorks 2001: the 10th Biennial PCBA Members Exhibition.
BookWorks 2001 will open with a lively public reception on Thursday, June 7
from 6:00-8:00 p.m., in the Skylight Gallery, Sixth Floor, Main Library,
100 Larkin St., Civic Center. The exhibition continues through Friday,
August 3, 2001. Past highlights of this exhibition include letterpress,
calligraphy, xerography, papermaking, hand illustration and both innovative
and traditional bookbindings.

The Pacific Center for the Book Arts was formed in 1980 to foster and
support the new direction of book artists' various disciplines, and to
provide a vehicle and focus for education, experimentation, and
communication. Newcomers to book arts are encouraged to participate in
PCBA's activities, workshops, lectures and the biennial exhibit. For
membership information please call 415-621-5744.

This public exhibition is sponsored by the Marjorie G. and Carl W. Stern
Book Arts and Special Collections Center of the San Francisco Public
Library. The exhibit is open to the public; all events at the Library are
free. For more information please call 415-557-4560.
