JUNE WORKSHOPS DEADLINE



BUILDING BOOKS: a newly designed  bookarts class for the intermediate and
advanced student will be presented by the 3-D dude Michael Jacobs of
Seattle, Washington June 25 - 28. You will explore experimental approaches
to sculptural bookmaking for 4 full days !  You will tap into your own
imaginative process as you plan and execute an extraordinary body of  four
unique, personal books, following Michael's models. The  problem - solving
skills  you will learn will enable fabrication of 3-D books suited also for
calligraphic or printed text. Michael is a fascinating personality, an
expert teacher, and a nationally known, prize-winning book artist.

MARBLING A to Z:  Master Marbler and Teacher  Galen Berry of Oklahoma will
teach his highly acclaimed course including  many traditional patterns such
as the Thistle, Birdwing, Italina Vein, and Antique plus experiemntal and
modern
applications to both paper and cloth.  He supplies all equipment and materials
and will have everything available for purchase so that you can
continue marbling after the course is over.  You will have 4 full days of
marbling, June 11- 14.  The exotically patterned papers may be used as book
covers, linings, box coverings, matting, and also designed to express
frameable art images, motifs, calligraphic expressions on papers, fabrics
and other
substrates, and more !   The inks are waterproof and smudgeproof when dry.

Registration:
The deadline for registration is Tuesday, May 29.  Course fee is $350 which
includes continental breakfast and a hearty lunch each day. Classes start
at 9 am  and go til 4 pm.

Saltwinds Yankee Barn is located just south of Boston, Massachusetts, on
the way to Cape Cod in Kingston.  The facility is a beautifully restored
and renovated
1809 barn in the historic district of the town. There are B&Bs and motels
nearby, and both train and bus service to Boston.
