POP-UP and Movable Books Exhibition

 Ephemera from the Collection of Geraldine Roberts Lebowitz

 May 31-September 15, 2001

A resident of Boca Raton, Florida, Geraldine Roberts Lebowitz began collect=
ing movable and pop-up books about eight years ago. The exhibit showcases 9=
6 pieces from Mrs. Lebowitz's collection of more than 800 books and is arra=
nge by paper engineer, including: Nick Bantock, Roger Culbertson, Jim Deesi=
ng, James Roger Diaz, David Hawcock, Mick Inkpen, Vojtech Kubasta, Tor Lokv=
ig, Jan Pienkowski, Lothar Meggendorfer, Kees Moerbeek, Ernest Nister, Ib P=
enick, Robert Sabuda, John Strejan, Ran Van der Meer, and Paul Wilgress.

The oldest book in the exhibit, Les animaux domestique, was pulbished in Fr=
ance around 1901 and features the inner structures of several barnyard anim=
als. The most recent book, Brooklyn Pops Up, published in the United States=
 in 2000, was created to celebrate an exhibition of pop-up books co-sponsor=
ed by the Brooklyn Public Library and the Movable Book Society.
