Re: BOOK_ARTS-L Digest - 19 Jul 2001 to 20 Jul 2001 (#2001-193)

Dear Book List-
Thursday night at the Center for Book Arts in New York, our
Artist-in-Residence,
Mare Blocker, winner of the Sally Bishop Grant presented an extraordinary
array of her delightfully colorful and sometimes ghoulish books, (watch out,
Ed Gorey) along with stories of her unusual childhood in Idaho. Her bookworks
include fanciful religious icons and funky martyrdoms, magic tricks, card
games and circus geeks and freaks. (For those of you who aren't familiar with
circus geeks, they bite off the heads of live chickens!)
Linoleum printed, letterpressed, beaded, stitched and hand painted, Mare's
were exciting to look at for their content and form. Wish you were there?

Come to the opening of her gallery show which opens
on Friday, July 27th at 6:00 and see what she's been doing
on her Sally Bishop Grant
at
