                        Unique Handmade Books: The Creative Process

SAN FRANCISCO-An exhibition at the San Francisco Public Library opens
February 5, 2002 and highlights the artists featured in Alisa Golden's new
how-to book, Unique Handmade Books (Sterling, 2001). The public is invited
to an opening reception on Sunday, February 10, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
in the Skylight Gallery, Sixth Floor, Main Library, 100 Larkin St., Civic
Center. The exhibition continues through March 16.

Book artists featured in both the book and the exhibit are Julie Chen, Sas
Colby, Betsy Davids, Marie C. Dern, Alisa Golden, Alastair Johnston, Lisa
Kokin, Catherine Michaelis, Katherine Ng, Coriander Reisbord, Robbin Ami
Silverberg, Val Simonetti, Anne Hicks Siberell, and Anne Hayden Stevens.

Alisa Golden has been making handmade books under the imprint never mind
the press since 1983. She is a graduate in printmaking from California
College of Arts and Crafts and a former board member and program director
for the Pacific Center for the Book Arts. She is also the author of
Creating Handmade Books (Sterling, 1998).

This public exhibition is sponsored by the Marjorie G. and Carl W. Stern
Book Arts and Special Collections Center, San Francisco Public Library, 100
Larkin Street, Civic Center. The rare book room is located in the Center on
the 6th floor of the Library. This exhibit is open to the public; all
