Silicon Valley, Northern California book artists, Jaki Ernst and Melissa
Dinwiddie, are offering the following classes for Winter/Spring. All classes
are held at Jaki's bright, spacious studio in downtown Mountain View. Sign
up for 2 or more classes at any time and take an additional $5 off each

BEGINNING & CONTINUING COPPERPLATE CALLIGRAPHY
Tuesday evenings, 6:30-9:00, March 12-April 23
Fee: SLIDING SCALE: If 4 people sign up: $200 for the 7-week series; 5
people: $165 ea.; 6 people: $145 ea.; 7 people: $125 ea.; 8 people: $115 ea.


BEGINNING ITALIC CALLIGRAPHY with BASIC BOOK DESIGN
Thursday evenings, 6:30-9:00, March 14-April 25
Fee: SLIDING SCALE: If 4 people sign up: $200 for the 7-week series; 5
people: $165 ea.; 6 people: $145 ea.; 7 people: $125 ea.; 8 people: $115 ea.


POP-UPS, PULL TABS, PUSH OVERS workshop with Jaki
One-day workshop, Saturday, February 23, 10am-5pm
Fee: $105
***OR, take the same workshop as a 3-evening series for $40 each evening
(sign up for 2 or more evenings at $35 each).
 Wednesdays, February 13, 20, 27, 7-9pm
Description: You'll leave this class armed with new tricks to: make a strip
of paper defy gravity; think inside and outside the box; use cheap
production thrills with high-end results; push the envelope of envelope
design; concoct a moveable beast; and set a 3-D stage you can smash flat for
mailing. This class is fast-paced, so wear track shoes and bring a sack
lunch!


JOURNALING JUNKET workshop with Jaki
Saturday, February 16, 10am-5pm
Fee: $107
Description: This workshop consists of informative lecture, plenty of
examples, and hands-on training in techniques designed to help you create
and maintain an illuminated, and illuminating journal. This will be a
fast-paced, information-packed day! Each student takes home a journaling
workbook (included) with over 100 pages of inspirational ideas to put to
immediate use (not to mention resources and materials lists, exercises to
break creative blocks, and a whole new way to look at the art of
journal-keeping!) We'll complete at least five projects in class using the
workbook and students carry away enough information and templates to inspire
their creative journaling efforts well into the future.


MAKE PARODY POSTAGE workshop with Jaki
Sunday, February 24, 10am-5pm
Fee: $107
Description: This day-long workshop consists of animated lecture, examples,
and hands-on art techniques, training, and take-home templates to help you
create your own parody postal stamps. Use your miniature art works to
embellish cards, gifts, packages, and mailable treasures. You'll leave class
with a large envelope full of reference and source lists, templates,
samples, philatelic supplies, ideas, cards, and INSPIRATION! You'll also
receive by mail two full-color sheets of Artistamps: one sheet of your own
design, and a one-sheet compilation of stamps designed by students in your
workshop.

SIX QUICK SEWN STRUCTURES book arts workshop
One-day workshop, Saturday, March 2, 10am-5pm
Sliding Scale Fee:
4 people: $105 each; 5 people: $90 ea.; 6 people: $80 ea.; 7 people: $75
ea.; 8 people: $70 ea.
Description: Spend a play day making books! We'll make six in all (or more,
if you're extra speedy!):
    -Dos a Dos binding with running stitch
    -Pleated "two-in-one" signature with a 5-hole pamplet stitch and
built-in multiple pockets on the covers
    -Faux Coptic stitch "butterfly book"
    -Multi-signature tacket binding
    -"Quick & dirty" looped binding
    -Tassel book
All papers and instructions are provided--all you need to bring is your
tools and a bag lunch.


FABULOUS FOLDED FORMATS book arts workshop
One-day workshop, Saturday, April 6, 10am-5pm
Sliding Scale Fee:

Description: Paper + a few folds + a slice and/or a stitch or two = Five fun
and fast books!
    -Slit & Slide book
    -Origami portfolio pocket cover
    -Accordion card case with quick, nonadhesive covers
    -Non-adhesive book card from one strip of paper
    -Maze books (or, infinite ways to make a book from a single sheet of
paper)
All papers and instructions are provided--all you need to bring is your
tools and a bag lunch.


MEDIEVAL ILLUMINATION FOR THE 21ST CENTURY
One-day workshop, Saturday, May 11, 10am-5pm
Sliding Scale Fee:
4 people: $115 ea.; 5 people: $100 ea.; 6 people: $90 ea.; 7 people: $80
ea.; 8 people: $75 ea.
Description: Spend a day in the scriptorium! Learn how to make an
illuminated initial letter from the ground up, with *real gold leaf*! We'll
make decorated letters that look just like the ones you find in ancient
illuminated manuscripts, but in half (maybe even 1/10th) the time, with
modern conveniences. All papers, paints, gold, and full color step-by-step
handouts included--all you need to bring is your tools, and of course a bag
lunch.
