The American Printing History Association (APHA) is pleased to announce
forthcoming publication of _The Spiral Press, 1926-1971: A Bibliographical
Checklist._ Philip N. Cronenwett of Dartmouth College Library, has examined
the holdings of many collections to compile this checklist of over 600
items. The bibliography lists the press's monographs, pamphlets, exhibition
catalogs and all publications relating to printing arts.

In the tradition of small private presses, the Spiral Press dedicated
itself to American letters and fine press work. The printer, Joseph
Blumenthal, designed and printed works for Robert Frost, W. H. Auden, Pablo
Neruda, William Carlos Williams, Robinson Jeffers and Franklin Delano
Roosevelt. Blumenthal set standards unequalled for their dedication to the
details of fine printing and design. His proprietary typeface, Spiral, was
admired by the Monotype Corporation and adapted as "Emerson" for commercial
book composition. As a promoter of fine printing and small presses,
Blumenthal wrote and taught about the book as "a prime cultural heritage."
The Spiral Press' publications reflected his passion.

The bibliography is currently available at a discounted pre-publication
price to APHA members (you may join to get the publication discount).
Members of APHA have until 31 March 2002 to purchase a copy for the
pre-publication price of $45; after that date the price will increase to
$55. The pre-publication price for the deluxe edition for APHA Members is
$225, after which the price will increase to $275.
