>As far as book structure is concerned, J.A. Szirmai's >Archaeology of Medieval
Bookbinding is hands-down the >most comprehensive source I know of for the

on the structures of historical bindings?

Yes, there is this one:

VAN REGEMORTER (Berthe). BINDING STRUCTURES IN
THE MIDDLE AGES. A Selection of Studies. Translated & annotated by Jane
Greenfield. Brussels & London, 1992. Scholarly articles on the binding of Greek
manuscripts, limp bindings of Carolingian manuscripts, early Egyptian bindings,
the binding of Jugoslav Cyrillic manuscripts, Ethiopian bookbindings, Byzantine
bindings.

Enjoy your day,
Terrence Collins
