[BKARTS] announcing Amos Paul Kennedy Jr lecture at Wells College, Aurora NY

The Wells College Book Arts Center is pleased to announce social printer
Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr. will present this year's Susan Garretson Swartzburg
'60 Memorial Book Arts Lecture at Wells College. The lecture, entitled "put
the message in the HANDS of the PEOPLE and move on!" will be given at 8:00
p.m. on Wednesday, May 1 in the Art Exhibit Room of Macmillan Hall. The
event is free and open to the public.

Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr., a self-proclaimed "book builder," is an
African-American printer who has dedicated his work to the documentation of
Negro culture. He began learning the printing trade at Grambling State
University in Louisiana, and received his MFA from the University of
Wisconsin at Madison. A trip to the Williamsburg, Virginia, print shop in
1980 clinched his desire to become a professional printer. From
Williamsburg, he traveled north to Chicago, where he joined the Artists Book
Works and bought his first press. Kennedy is known for his books on Negro
and African folklore, printed by his Jubilee Press, Builders of Books on
Negro Culture, in unusually interesting shapes and sizes.

The lecture series is made possible through the Heiland-Garretson Book Arts
Lecture Fund, established and sustained through the generosity of Susan
Garretson Swartzburg, Wells College Class of 1960.

Wells College has an enormous resource in the Book Arts Center, which
consists of the Wells College Press and the Class of 1932 Bindery. The BAC
functions as a learning center, sponsoring classes, exhibitions, lectures,
demonstrations, workshops and symposia in the book arts and related fields.
It is a classroom, laboratory, and a library for information and
inspiration, and serves as a magnet for all who wish to study the art of the
