Let the folder soak until you can scrape/scour the glue off. If you have to, you can sand it with sandpaper grades until you get up to 600 grade. Usually I then polish with polishing compounds (available at car parts or paint stores). I finally soak them in oil (veg. oil is fine) for a few hours. It can sometimes impart a nice patinated color to the folder. Then dry and polish. Once some of the oil soaks in it will not transfer to paper, or ruin the folder, just make sure it's dryand not oily.
If you want a bend in a flat folder, put a little puddle of water on a counter and place the folder in it where you want the bend. Make sure the water only contacts one side, and leave at least over night. It will cause a slight bend upward. You can sometimes repaeat this for a more pronounced bend, but this will not always work. Let dry before you polish and oil it.
