Re: [BKARTS] Book Arts events and workshops in Southern California



Miriam Schaer, an internationally known book artist from Brooklyn, will be
visiting Southern California and will be teaching workshops in Pacific
Palisades, Long Beach and Ventura.  She will also be giving a lecture on her
work at Beverly Hills Public Library on Wednesday 21 August at 7:30 p.m.

This is the first notice of these workshops by Miriam Schaer:

Palisades Book Workshops announces BEADED BINDINGS, a workshop at the studio
of Bill Hendricks in Ventura on 18 August.  If you have boxes, or bags of
bead-like objects hidden in the corners of your studio, this is the class
for you.  Learn to incorporate beautiful beads of all sizes–from tiny seed
beads to large ceramic baubles, into your books.  Participants will create
at least one book, sewn on cards,and learn techniques to build beading into
the spine.  Other structures that easily accomodate beads will also be
discussed.

Workshops by Miriam Schaer will also be held at the Long Beach Museum of Art
on 23 - 25 August.
She will also be giving a workshop at the Studio of Gloria Helfgott on 10
and 11 August from 9:30 to 4:30 p.m. at 869 Via de la Paz, Pacific

Miriam Schaer is a book artist and printmaker whose suclptural approach to
books incorporates a variety of media and found objects, pushing the
boundaries into performance and installation art.
She has hgad many solo exhibition in the U.S., as well as residencies
throughout the U.S>, Europe and Canada. She has also taught and lectured at
institutions such as Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University,
Memphis College of Art and Design, Cinema Rex in Belgrade, Yugoslavia,
Graphic Arts Union in Tallinn, Estonia, as well as the Center for the Book
