 Art by Hand Summer Programs at Long Beach Museum of Art:
A Riot of Color A three-session workshop taught by artist Cynthia Evans

Saturdays, 1-3 PM, June 29, July 13, and July 27 Expand your knowledge of
color and explore paint pigments and combinations. Evans shows how to set up
a palette of paints and explore the mysteries of hue, value, saturation and
the color wheel. All levels may enroll. Evans has extensive experience as a
color designer and color board painter with Universal Creative. She has over
15 years experience in set painting.


Books in the Classroom: A Workshop for Educators by Miriam Schaer

Friday, 9 AM to 3 PM, August 23 New York-based artist and educator Miriam
Schaer provides a variety of projects for each book structure that can be
incorporated into all grade levels.  $60 for non-members; $50 for Museum
members.


Beaded Bindings: A two-day workshop by New York City-based, book artist and
printmaker Miriam Schaer

Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM August 24 & Sunday 11 AM to 4 PM August 25
If you have boxes or bags of beads and bead-like objects hidden in the
corners of your studio or workshop, this is the class for you. Learn to
incorporate beautiful beads of all sizes into your books. Participants will
create at least one book, sewn on cords, and learn techniques to build
beading into the spine. Previous bookbinding experience is helpful, but not
required. Space is limited for this special one-time opportunity.
Pre-registration is required.  $100 for non-members; $60 for members.



Collage a Self Portrait: taught by artist Cynthia Evans

Saturday Noon to 4 PM, September 21 Explore self-portraiture with collage
and acrylic paint inspired by images of the faces of Alexej Jawlensky in the
Museum galleries. Evans has been doing collage paintings for twenty years.
She has taught painting and drawing in Florence, Italy for Glendale
Community College Study Abroad. Her artwork can be seen this summer at Linda
Hodges Gallery in Seattle and in September at Koplin Gallery in Los Angeles.
$50 for non-members; $35 for members.
