Seriously, though. My two cents says that the altered book, while certainly
aligned with artists' books, is one step over towards Art as opposed to
Craft. Quite often--not always--the altered book is more about aesthetics
than it is about the obvious delivery of a message. Many of the altered
books in the Jaffe Collection are basically sculptures created out of books.

There is another word besides Craft and Art. A word quite cherished by the
amateur printer but not likewise by the book arts practioneer. And that word
is... Hobby.
