Just a different view point:  I also touch-up my blade with a stone, or sometimes fine sandpaper.  I've been using it for 22 years and only had it sharpened when I originally restored it.  However, it is my experience that a slight pull towards the table, on the blade, assures a clean cut.  I have never had trouble with blade cutting blade.  I also occasionaly use beeswax to assure a really smooth action.
