[BKARTS] Chuck Close

There is a great show of Chuck Close prints at SUNY Purchase right now.
Coming down on December 29. Don't miss it.

There is a beautiful collaboration between this artist and the printers
and papermakers who helped execute his unique vision. He has worked with
a grid to organize his images since the 1960's and this show documents all
the transmutations of that concept. Some of the most interesting to me
were the grids made of, for example, "handmade, air-dried and manipulated
paper in 24 grey values." And the massive 6' x 4' brass template for a
portrait in pulp. By 2000, he was producing massive silkscreen prints with
120 colors in them. The show is an education in printmaking techniques and
includes spit bite etchings, scribble etchings, and fingerprints. There
is a beautiful handbound portfolio containing two accordion-page books of
progressive and state proofs as well.
