[BKARTS] Printmaking Workshop in Dublin, Ohio

In February 2003, the Dublin Arts Council in Dublin, Ohio, will offer a
Japanese woodblock printmaking class with master artists and printmaker
Takuji Hamanaka. The class will be intense; seventeen hours of instruction
in four days. Hamanaka will lead the participants in an exploration of this
ancient printmaking style, as well as traditional and contemporary
manifestations of this art. Participants will learn all aspects of the
process: the proper care and use of carving tools, preparation and carving
the wood, color registration, use of paper and hand-printing using the
baren. The class will be intimate, allowing printmakers of all experience
levels to excell.

Hamanaka has been trained as a traditional Japanese woodblock printer and
worked for different studios in Japan and the U.S. He has taught at the
Center for Book Arts in New York City and the Connecticut Graphics Center.
He has been conducting printing classes out of his studio in Brooklyn since
1995 and is a faculty member of the Manhattan Graphics Center.

The workshop will take place at the Dublin Arts Center (7125 Riverside
Drive, Dublin, Ohio) Saturday, February 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday,
February 23, from 1-5 p.m.; Monday, February 24 from 6-9 p.m.; and Tuesday,
February 25, from 6-9 p.m. The registration fee is $285. Friends of the
Dublin Arts Council pay $260.
