The concertina fold book is the most versatile (and fun) element in book
making: it can function as book pages, a structure for supporting pages,
or a mechanism for activating pages. These two days will be spent
exploring different concertina forms through sample structures ranging
from simple fold books to an elaborate supported sewn concertina
binding. Along the way, we?ll experiment with non-adhesive methods of
attaching pages and sections into books with cutting, tabbing, and
sewing, to customize folding structures for specific uses.

Scott McCarney is an artist and designer who has worked in book form for
twenty years. His one-of-a-kind books, offset editions and sculptural
installations are presented and collected internationally. He teaches in
the Summer Institute at the Visual Studies Workshop and at the Anderson
Ranch Arts Center in Colorado.
