did you lick your fingers after finishing the rebind Ed?

While restoring Thomas Carlisle's personal copy of "Principles of
Political Economy" for UC Santa Cruz I found that the spine strip
liners (paper lining) were receipts for purchase of binding
materials, with their prices and amounts.  They were removed and
mounted and returned with the restored books.
